Black Elk Peak

SEE BLACK ELK PEAK WITH DAVE'S GUIDED TOURS.

Black Elk Peak (formerly Harney Peak) lies in the Black Hills National Forest, just west of Mount Rushmore.

While many know the peak for its natural beauty, Black Elk Peak peak has been the site of visions. When he was only nine years old, a boy named Black Elk had his first vision on the peak that now bears his name.

Dave’s World Tours invites you to visit the majestic Black Hills and see Black Elk Peak.

At 7,242 feet, the Black Elk Peak is the highest natural point in South Dakota and offers expansive views. It also features a stone fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The hike is a fun thing for the whole family and trail No. 9 is the most common way to get to the top. Just a 7-mile drive from the town of Custer, the trail begins by Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park. Then it's 3.5 miles up and another 3.5 back. The round trip hike can take 2-4 hours to complete, and while it’s worth it, we often suggest coming back and doing it another day.
